Applying GitOps To Infrastructure With Flux And Crossplane

How can we apply GitOps principles to infrastructure? We can, for example, use Flux but that means that infrastructure needs to be defined as Kubernetes resources. Crossplane might be one of the few, if not the only tool, that allows us to define infrastructure as a set of Kubernetes custom resources.
